MY HERO BICYCLE STRAIGHT FROM THE MOTHERLAND

Hi All!!

This is a my first blog and my first post on a recently developed obsession...CYCLING! I live in Ottawa and it's an absolutely beautiful city to pick up this habit.

At the moment, I ride a few different types of bikes. All for different occasions.

Here's my most latest and probably more rarest of collections (rare in Canada, most definitely not rare in Asia)..

Introducing, the HERO JET GOLD: The common man's ride in India, Africa and so many areas of the world. This bicycle has given freedom of movement to more people in these parts of the world than any other form of transport. It's cheap, it's solid, it's simple and it's made to last. You can load it with 300lbs of life and it still moves along as if that is exactly what it's supposed to do.
Beautiful, simple, upright posture.  Old school bend handle bars are just awesome.

Full stand that lifts up the whole cycle. That bike's going no where soon. The stand is meant to hold the bike strong as one loads it with weight.

Seat has springs but I'm probably going to replace it cuz it's too cushy. For my height of 6'2, this bike seat needs to be replaced for one that can shift back a few inches and up another 3 inches at least. The springs are meant to take out the hard bumps of the road in some rural parts of the world.

The back rack! Back wheel lock! Awesome. The rack is strong enough to support another person. The wheel lock is a simple and effective theft deterrent while you're eyes aren't on the bike. The bike weighs nearly 40 lbs if not more, so carrying it away...is not an easy option.

That thing long black 'wire' looking is a thick steel rod for caliper brakes. The bike has no cables whatsoever. Imagine you're in a rural unreachable part of the country and a brake cable or a gear cable snaps! Well, the rods remove that problem by making the process trouble free. No gimmicks. No frills.

The decals are...hmm a little cheesy, but they're just stickers. It's all about the function.

Chain cover (made of steel), very useful and characteristic of these types of bikes. Dust, rocks or rain...this bulletproof cover will hold them all at bay.

I have a pretty good sized hand, and that old school bell is about its size. It's gotta be the loudest bike bell on the planet! I'll have to be careful to ring it atleast 50 metres from someone I'm going to pass.  Again, it's about the function. Bells and horns in Asia are used to let people know you're there. If you've traveled to these parts of the world, I think you can well appreciate the importance of having a loud warning ding :)

Thanks for reading. I'm super excited about it.

  1. This bike look fantastic! Very road worthy and looks practically indestructible - although I hope you don't have to carry it up any stairs very often. Looking forward to hearing how it rides!
